1. As a media specialist, how do you find ways to connect your students to relevant STEM concepts?
As a Media Specialist, I strive to integrate STEM concepts into library activities and curriculum. Utilizing tools like Bee Bots for teaching logarithms and incorporating virtual reality experiences through VR Daydream not only make learning engaging but also foster an understanding of STEM principles. Additionally, activities such as coding Ozobots with colors and exploring paper circuits with Chibitronics allow students to interact with technology while grasping fundamental STEM concepts in a hands-on manner. By offering diverse and interactive experiences, I aim to inspire curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of STEM among my students.
2. What are some ways in which you collaborate with other teachers in your building on interdisciplinary projects or other activities?
Collaboration with fellow teachers is essential for creating interdisciplinary projects and enriching learning experiences. At Robert Goddard Montessori, I collaborate closely with teachers across various disciplines to design projects that integrate technology, literature, and STEM concepts. For example, I work closely with teachers and students to access robotics and literary programs. By combining our expertise, we create holistic learning experiences that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our students.
3. You are joining us for both the ACCESS Lending Library Program and the STEM Teacher Leadership Academy this summer in Washington, D.C. - congrats! What are you most looking forward to this summer with our next cohort?
I am thrilled to participate in both the ACCESS Lending Library Program and the STEM Teacher Leadership Academy this summer in Washington, D.C. I am eager to expand my knowledge and skills in STEM education and further enhance my ability to provide innovative learning experiences for my students. Additionally, I look forward to networking with fellow educators and gaining insights into best practices in STEM education. This opportunity aligns with my commitment to ongoing professional development and will undoubtedly enrich my teaching practice.
4. What is the best part about being a media specialist?
The best part about being a Media Specialist is the opportunity to inspire and empower students through technology and literature. I am passionate about fostering a love for reading, critical thinking, and creativity among students. As a Media Specialist, I have the privilege of introducing students to a wide range of resources, from traditional books to digital media, and guiding them on their learning journey. Witnessing students' excitement as they discover new ideas and develop essential skills is incredibly rewarding and reaffirms my dedication to education.
Thank you so much, Arnor!
